MindFlu is a dynamic youth initiative in advocating mental well-being and social inclusion. Our missions are to act a platform that involves and unites youths in mental well-being advocacy and literacy and to encourage social inclusion by becoming the bridge between the
society and people with mental affliction. We hope to break the stigma, raise awareness of mental health existence, its importance and crucial components. Our motto is that mental illness is as essential as physical health that deserved to be acknowledged and treated.

MindFlu Mental Well-Being Workshop (2017)

For our one-day workshop on 18th of November, 2017, we welcomed more than 50 students of various ages from secondary schools to university levels to join us on this event. We kickstarted the workshop with an informative talk and personal sharing about practical knowledge on mental health and illness, gaining skills to recognize signs or indicators within oneself or spotted in others. Afterward, we separated them into groups to complete a series of simulation games, allowing to not only know but also feel the lives of individuals suffering from a mental health condition, which in turn reinforce their sense of empathy and hopefully change their views about mental illness.

MMHA Food & Fun Fair Social Experiment 2017

During a fine evening at 8th of October 2017, MindFlu conducted their first social experiment at Sunway Velocity Mall and also a Food & Fun Fair organized by Malaysian Mental Health Association (MMHA) to spread awareness not only verbally, but also through their emotions on the importance of mental wellbeing for the public and positive vibes as a welcomed by-product.

“You Are Not Alone”

A song composed to encourage people to open up about their mental health issues and to show support for mental health advocacy. As per September 2018, more than 2100 people have been reached.

MindFlu Mental Well-Being Workshop 2018

A one-day workshop was conducted on 10th November 2018 in UCSI College with over 60 young and energetic participants aged 13-17. An informative talk was given by Ms.Athena from SOLS 24/7. A personal sharing from Ms.Malar and Ms.Wendy who have battled mental illness to equip audience with real life experience on mental health problems. Simulation of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Depression, and Schizophrenia was carried out to inspire participants to gain a better understanding, care and empathy towards this social issue.

VR programme- VR Roadshow

VR roadshow is our VR simulation event whereby the viewers will wear VR headset in order to experience the 360 degrees 3D vision of mental illness simulation. The purpose is to create a better understanding of the signs and symptoms of mental illness. Moreover, it is to create empathy, by letting them experience. “Not just storytelling, but story-living.”

Volunteering Programme MindFlu x MMHA

This volunteering programme serves as a platform for clients to mentally and physically prepare themselves to get used to being in the society again, whereby MindFlu is the bridge between clients and society. The main purpose of this programme is to help clients feel included in society by letting them contribute through various activities. In addition to helping our clients, this programme also benefits as a learning opportunity for eager volunteers wanting to experience something different and to reduce stigma or stereotypes on patients with a mental health condition.

UNplugged Workshop

UNplugged workshop was conducted on 12th of October 2019. The highlight of the workshop is the distinction between speaker and listener that will be blurred in an enthralling sharing session, featuring Tribeless, a global movement and experience design firm that aims to create safe spaces for open and honest conversation.

Tan Sri Harmony Award 2019

Tan Sri Harmony Award was a social enterprise track that inspires UCSI students to rise up as agents of social change. It promotes education as a force for good and it seeks to extend UCSI’s strong track record in societal empowerment and community organizing. It was held on 1st October 2019, in where MindFlu’s proposal and skillful presentation about their concern of mental wellbeing was able to earn them 3rd place.

Khind Showcase (2018)

MindFlu project was selected as one of the best three in the Projects of Happiness 2018 by Khind  Starfish foundation. Projects for Happiness is an initiative by Khind Starfish Foundation for all undergraduates in Malaysia to design grassroots projects since year 2014, with a purpose to promote happiness and address the root cause of poverty and poor education. MindFlu received a total of RM 5000 given by the Khind Starfish Foundation, which was allocated to focus on creating awareness and reducing the stigma of mental health among youth and the general public.

Khind Showcase (2019)

MindFlu prospered with new, influential events and managed to win one of the best three in the Projects of Happiness by Khind Starfish foundation for yet another year.  Near the end of 2019, MindFlu had managed to seize another opportunity to receive the fundings from Khind Starfish Foundation. They received RM 3500 to fund their projects concerning on raising awareness and reducing the stigma of mental health among youth and the general public.

MindFlu Experiential Learning Workshop 2020

On 23/2/2020, MindFlu held its very own experiential learning workshop, which was open for up to 18 UCSI Trust scholars. This event served as a platform for the participants to gain knowledge about mental health and also organised, hoping that the youth was given knowledge to help break the stigma of mental illness. Sessions such as simulations, like OCD and Schizophrenia, gave participants a chance to experience what symptoms a sufferer can have. Not only our very own quizzes regarding mental health issues, we even have our very own VR Depression simulation, a unique experience for many, and also our Tribeless conversation that we learnt from Tribeless. The conversation gathers people for a story sharing session like no other, where it made sure each and every one of their participants feel safe to share their stories with the aids of a specialized deck of cards, the Tribeless Empathy Cards, and also 3 unique rules,”Listen Openly”, “Share Honestly”, and “Respond Kindly”.
